Featured Author Kyle MacDonald Originally from Belcarra, British Columbia, Kyle MacDonald has planted more than 100,000 trees, delivered more than 1,000 pizzas, but swears he has eaten only one scorpion (don't ask!). When he is not promoting Alberta beef in Canada Day parades, he is stealing flags from the Prime Minister's office (again, don't ask!). He especially loves standing on street corners in Montreal where he hawks copies of shoddily-bound English literature to Francophones in sub-zero temperatures. According to Kyle, his mother still cuts his hair. All of this aside, Kyle is perhaps best known as the "red paperclip guy," a recent international media phenomenon. On July 12th, 2005 he placed a red paperclip on the Craigslist barter section, hoping to trade up to a bigger and better item. His ultimate goal was to trade up to a house, which he accomplished exactly one year and fourteen trades later when the mayor of Kipling, Saskatchewan offered him a 1,100-square-foot property. An aspiring writer and humorist, Kyle is currently working on a book about his paperclip adventure. Watch for his first published story in I Sold My Gold Tooth for Gas Money, a collection of short humorous tales from the road less travelled. < Back to Writer Spotlight Main Page |
