Brian Andersen

As a boy Brian spent many happy days with his grandparents on a campground they owned. He remembers fondly how, at the age of eleven, he learned to drive his grandfather's 1956 Ford standard pick-up truck on the logging roads surrounding the campground. While smoking a cigarette and sipping from Grandpa's mickey of vodka, Brian would wait to hear the word "Stop!" which meant that Grandpa had spotted a grouse. After Brian had hit the brakes, Grandpa would aim his shotgun through the truck's passenger window and blast the bird.

Brian and his three brothers learned to skate on the frozen patio of his childhood home. Hockey soon became the focus of the family. At nineteen he was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars, then spent a couple of years playing in the minor leagues. Unfortunately, his hockey career was cut short by an injury, so he instead became an adult correctional officer at a forest camp near Chilliwack, BC. A few years later he became the Case Management Coordinator for young offenders and was acknowledged for his service and achievements with an exemplary service award, which was presented to him by the Governor General of British Columbia.

Brian is now semi-retired and still resides in Chilliwack. When he is not golfing or trying out a new recipe, he works for an organic animal feed company. Watch for Brian's story "Holy Crap" in the pages of A Beaver is Eating My Canoe. His tale of woe describes an unfortunate series of events during a cross-border delivery run.
